Release of Payroll Information for Employees of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign

Department offices may release salary information to third parties, but should refer requests for any other payroll information to the payroll division.

When an employee requests his or her own payroll records or information, the Department may provide such information or refer the employee to the Payroll Division.

Departmental offices are authorized to release information about individual salaries to third parties, but should refer requests for any other payroll information to the Payroll Division, unless the requests are made under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA). FOIA requests must be referred to the campus Freedom of Information Officer, 304 Swanlund Administration Building.

Names, salaries, titles and dates of employment of University employees are public information under the FOIA. Other personal financial information will not be released by the University without written permission from the employee to whom the information pertains.

Departments should refer all third-party requests for payroll information about student employees, including salary or wage information, to the Payroll Division or the Freedom of Information Officer. The release of information about students is subject to the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act. Personal financial information about students will not be released by the University without written permission from the student to whom the information pertains.
