Organization and Responsibilities of Facilities & Services

Facilities & Services is a campus service unit that reports to the Chancellor.

Facilities & Services is a service unit, under the direction of the Executive Director of Facilities & Services. Its purpose is to assist the various University departments in their functions of teaching and research. Facilities & Services is responsible to the Chancellor.

The following functions fall within the purview of Facilities & Services at the Urbana-Champaign Campus:

  1. Building maintenance
  2. Grounds maintenance
  3. Operation and maintenance of University vehicles, except departmental
  4. Custodial Services
  5. Sanitary waste and trash disposal
  6. General superintendence of public functions
  7. Campus stores and receiving
  8. Internal and external mail services
  9. Operation and maintenance cost accounting
  10. Printing and photographic services
  11. Distribution and inventory of building room keys
  12. Parking
  13. Traffic engineering services
  14. Safety and compliance
  15. Remodeling and minor improvements
  16. Capital improvement projects
  17. Capital construction
  18. Work order service: for special work required by other departments and divisions in order to make available to them professional engineers, skilled craftspeople, and/or special machinery and facilities
  19. Operation and maintenance of central supervisory environmental control system
  20. Planning and construction management
  21. Engineering services
  22. Architectural services
