Military Service Endorsements in Marketing and Promotion
The purpose of this policy is to implement federal restrictions on the wearing and use of Military Service uniforms and the use of U.S. Department of Defense (“DoD”) and Military Service Marks in connection with the marketing and promotion of the university.
Scope
All units of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
Authority
Associate Chancellor for Public Affairs; 10 U.S.C. § 771; DoD Directive 1334.1.
Policy
No unit may use either a Military Service Mark or a Military Service uniform in a Campus Publication or in any activity to market, promote, brand, or endorse (whether directly or by implication) the university or any of its programs, products, services, or activities. Military Service Marks and uniforms shall be used only as authorized by law.
Definitions
Campus Publications means all print and digital communications published by or on behalf of the university or one of its units.
Military Service means the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, National Guard, and their reserve components.
Marks means the official seals and other trademarks, insignias, emblems, initials, logos, symbols, and other identifiers of the DoD or a branch of Military Service.
