To promote the university’s compliance with requirements to notify a research sponsor when an individual engaged in sponsored research has been found in violation of, and/or is subject to administrative action based on, the university’s Sexual Misconduct Policy, Nondiscrimination Policy, or other forms of covered misconduct as specified below.
This policy applies to all members of the campus community engaged in sponsored research, including but not limited to university faculty, specialized faculty, staff, students, postdoctoral appointees, visiting scholars, and visiting scientists.
The Vice Chancellor for Research and Innovation (“VCRI”) and the Vice Chancellor for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (“VCDEI”). The VCRI is the institutional official with responsibility for required reporting of misconduct.
In accordance with research sponsor requirements, the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign is responsible for notifying certain research sponsors of allegations, administrative actions, findings, disciplinary actions, and sanctions involving sexual harassment, sexual assault, discriminatory conduct based on other protected classifications, or other forms of interpersonal misconduct. The University will provide the sponsor only the information necessary to comply with the reporting obligation but reserves the right to provide further information based on perceived relevancy. This policy does not relieve members of the campus community from their responsibilities to comply with applicable laws, professional standards, ethical guidelines, and other University of Illinois policies.
The Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research & Innovation (OVCRI) is responsible for developing procedures related to this policy.
OVCRI shall have the authority to make exceptions, in consultation with University Counsel, the Office for Access and Equity (OAE), Illinois Human Resources (IHR), and the Provost’s Office.
