Urbana-Champaign Campus Designation

Purpose

To standardize the use of the campus name “University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign” and to distinguish between this campus and the University of Illinois System.

All faculty members and staff.

Policy

Use “University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign” when referring to this campus with text in print and digital publications or when identifying individual staff or faculty members from this campus. Campus units should use the mailing address of Urbana, Illinois, or Champaign, Illinois, as appropriate. Faculty members should use the campus designation when submitting their names and affiliations for use in conference programs, biographical data, and publications.

Acceptable second-reference usages for the campus include Illinois, U of I (for in-state and alumni audiences) and Urbana or the Urbana campus (to distinguish this campus from the Springfield and Chicago campuses). Do not use UIUC to refer to the campus in print and digital publications.

Do not use the name “University of Illinois” to refer to this campus. Follow the University of Illinois System’s Writing Style Guide’s entry for the name of the System and second references.
