Campus units are authorized to release individual salary information for an employee in response to requests from third parties, but must refer all other payroll information requests from third parties to the Benefits Services Center, except for those requests made under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), which must be referred to the public records officer in the Office for University Relations. Names, salaries, titles, and dates of employment of employees are public information under FOIA. The University will not release an employee’s other personal financial information to third parties without the employee’s prior written permission. Campus units must refer all requests from third parties for payroll information about student employees, including salary or wage information, to the Benefits Services Center, except for those requests made under FOIA, which must be referred to the public records officer in the Office for University Relations. The release of student information is subject to the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA). The University will not release a student’s personal financial information to third parties without the student’s prior written permission, except as authorized by FERPA.
In response to an employee request for his or her own payroll records or information, campus units may either provide the information or refer the employee to the Benefits Services Center.
